In Sumy region, the number of people injured in a Russian attack on a civilian bus near Bilopillya has risen to seven. Nine people were killed. This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on Facebook.

“Rescuers used a special tool to unblock the bodies of the victims from the damaged vehicle,” the SES said.

According to preliminary data, the attack targeted a civilian bus that was on a route near the line of fire. The victims sustained injuries of varying severity – all of them were hospitalised.

In connection with the tragedy, the Sumy community declared a Day of Mourning on 17 May.

The head of the Bilopil community, Yuriy Zarko, said that this day “will go down in the history of Bilopil as a black Saturday”.

“Even the Nazis did not do this… There can be no forgiveness for the Nazis for their atrocities! Eternal memory to the dead! In memory of the civilian victims, the city is in mourning from 17 to 19 May,” he wrote on Facebook.

This strike is yet another indication that Russia continues to target civilian infrastructure and civilians. The Ukrainian government has already called on the international community to respond to this crime and increase pressure on the aggressor.
