Procedural guidance in the case is provided by the Office of the Prosecutor General, which served a local resident of Chernihiv with a notice of suspicion of treason and illegal dissemination of information relating to the movement, deployment and movement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations of the country (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This was reported by TimeUkraineIsrael with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Recruited through social media: Russian agent in Chernihiv region

According to the investigation, the man, who had pro-Russian views, was recruited by Russian special services through social media. Having received the task, he actively cooperated with the enemy, adjusting artillery and missile strikes on Chernihiv region. To carry out his tasks, he rented apartments with panoramic views of strategically important objects, including the repair bases of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and medical facilities where wounded Ukrainian soldiers were treated.

Large-scale planning of terrorist acts

The suspect went on to carry out more serious assignments, including setting fire to a military pick-up truck and a transformer substation on a railway line. After that, he reported to his Russian supervisor that he was ready for even more radical actions, stating his intention to organise the physical destruction of Ukrainian servicemen. His plan was to create an extensive guerrilla network and use improvised explosive devices and drones to precisely hit targets.

Detention and evidence of cooperation with the aggressor

Law enforcers detained the traitor in the course of operational measures. During the searches, they seized his mobile phone and computer, on which they found materials confirming his cooperation with Russian special services. On the basis of this evidence, the court imposed on him a measure of restraint in the form of detention.

The investigation is ongoing

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine. At the same time, we would like to emphasise that in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
