SBU detains FSB agent who ‘rented out’ Ukrainian airfields to Russians

The SBU CI exposed and detained a Russian FSB agent who was collecting intelligence on Ukrainian military aviation and passing it to the enemy. This was reported by the SBU press centre.

What we know:

  • The detainee is a 41-year-old resident of Zhytomyr region, unemployed
  • Recruited by the FSB in February 2014 via Telegram
  • His task was:
    • Identify the coordinates of the operational airfields of the Defence Forces in Khmelnytskyi region
    • Establish schedules for combat flights of Ukrainian aircraft
    • Ensure that the airfield is hit when there is the most equipment there

To spy, he set up an observation post on the roof of a private house using binoculars.

  • He was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason under martial law
  • The court chose to hold him in custody without bail
  • He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property
