The Security Service of Ukraine exposed and detained a Russian military intelligence agent operating in Kharkiv. The 63-year-old local resident, previously unemployed, was used by the Russian special service to conduct reconnaissance of Ukrainian military positions.
According to the SSU, the agent offered Ukrainian defenders cleaning services in their temporary accommodation in order to collect information about their location. These actions were aimed at preparing a new series of rocket and bomb attacks on Kharkiv.
The detainee transmitted the coordinates of the objects and positions of the defenders to her MID supervisor via her mobile phone, using screenshots with markings on Google maps. Her activities revealed plans for detailed reconnaissance near military facilities.
The operation was conducted by SSU CI officers jointly with the Rivne Regional Prosecutor’s Office. During the arrest, the SSU seized the means of communication used to transmit information.
The detained agent was served with a notice of suspicion under the article on high treason under martial law, which provides for life imprisonment and confiscation of property. The case highlights the ongoing threat to internal security in times of war and the importance of vigilance in countering hostile activity in Ukraine.
