In the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Pisgat Ze’ev, a tragic incident resulted in the injury of a 25-year-old police officer. The man, who barricaded himself in his apartment with the intention of committing suicide, opened fire on law enforcement officers and rescuers who tried to help. This is reported by Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing Vesty.
How the events unfolded
The incident began when the police station received a report of a man with suicidal tendencies. Police officers and firefighters arrived at the house on Ha Arbaa Street to assess the situation and provide assistance. However, instead of engaging in dialogue with law enforcement, the man suddenly opened fire.
A police officer was seriously injured in the shootout. Doctors at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, where she was rushed to, classified her condition as critical. According to her colleagues, the girl remained true to her oath to the end: before the assault began, she asked a colleague who was preparing for a wedding not to risk his life and stay out of the operation. A few seconds later, the suspect shot her in the head.
Police response and investigation
Reinforced police units arrived at the scene, as did the head of the Jerusalem District, Major General Amir Arzani. He heard operational reports and assessed further actions. According to the police, the incident was of a criminal nature, although the initial cause was the attacker’s psycho-emotional state.
The suspect was detained during the operation, his motives and the circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated. Large emergency services are working at the scene.
Heroism in the face of danger
In addition to the police officer, rescuers from the Fire and Rescue Service were also injured during the operation. Paramedics from Magen David Adom (MADA) and Ihud Atzalah quickly provided assistance at the scene.
This tragedy is yet another reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face in the line of duty. The bravery of the injured officer, who tried to protect her colleagues to the last, is a shining example of self-sacrifice for the safety of citizens.
