On 15 December 2023, a deputy of the Keretske village council in Zakarpattia carried out a terrorist attack in the local council building, detonating three fragmentation grenades – RGD-5 and F-1 – during a village council meeting. The explosions injured 26 people, two of whom later died from their injuries. This happened thanks to the efforts of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The incident was reported by Time Ukraine Israel, citing the SBU press service.

The offender had carefully prepared for the attack. Using his connections in criminal circles, he purchased combat grenades and hid them in his own home. On the day of the meeting, after the deputy left the session hall for a while, he returned with the grenades, took them out of his pockets and threw them one by one on the floor of the hall, where almost all the members of the village council were present.

Several people were seriously injured in the explosion, two of whom died – one the next day and the other a month later. The court found the MP guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: part 3 of Article 258 (terrorist act resulting in death) and part 1 of Article 263 (carrying, storage, purchase of explosive devices without a permit). The investigation was conducted by the SBU investigators in Zakarpattia region with the support of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
