A fire broke out in a seminary dormitory on David Yellin Street in Jerusalem, injuring thirty-eight people. According to Israeli emergency services, three people are in serious condition, two are in moderate condition, and the rest suffered minor injuries, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics immediately evacuated the victims to Hadassah medical centres in Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus. At the scene, thick smoke was seen coming out of the building. Magen David Adom paramedic Eliyahu Ben Hamu said that all the victims were fully conscious, despite inhaling the smoke. “We started providing first aid and transporting them to various hospitals in the city,” he said.
United Hatzalah paramedics Ariel Drey and Zevi Klein, who arrived at the scene, said that the fire broke out in a residential building, part of which is used as a seminary for girls. They provided first aid to numerous victims, including three men who entered the building to rescue the victims, as well as 14 girls who were evacuated in United Hatzalah ambulances.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Authorities are working to ensure the safety of the building and provide assistance to all those affected.
