A rally in support of Ukraine: Marichka Hlyten
Thousands of Americans – from ordinary citizens to leaders of NGOs – gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington on Sunday for a powerful rally under the slogan “Standing for American Values, Supporting Ukraine”. The event was the start of a large-scale Ukrainian Action Summit that will last until 9 April, Ukrinform reports.
According to Maryna Baidyuk, co-organiser of the rally and president of United Help Ukraine, the main goal is to show that Ukraine’s struggle is a fight for universal values: freedom, democracy and human rights. That’s why Americans from all 50 states have united to make a statement: Ukraine is not alone.
The rally was non-partisan and non-political, but with clear messages to the US authorities. Activist Marichka Hlyten, who heads the delegations from Missouri and Montana, stressed that there can be no talk of a truce while Russia is killing Ukrainian children and demonstrating brute force.
“We support the idea of peace through strength, which was voiced by Donald Trump. But the terms of peace should not be formulated by Putin, but jointly by Ukraine and the United States. Russia constantly violates agreements and cannot be trusted,” she stressed.
As part of the summit, delegates from Ukrainian diaspora organisations plan to visit the offices of senators and congressmen to provide them with concrete evidence of Russia’s violations and increase pressure on politicians to support Ukraine. Among the organisers of the rally are the American Coalition for Ukraine, Razom for Ukraine, Nova Ukraine, United Help Ukraine, Ukrainian National Women’s League of America and others.
