On 24 October, in the Sarny district of Rivne region, an F-1 grenade tragically killed a father and son who moved from Luhansk region in March 2022, seeking safety from the war. This was reported by the TimeUkraineIsrael portal with reference to the press service of the Rivne regional police.

The incident occurred at around 20:00 in the family’s private household, when the head of the Stepan village council informed the police of the tragic discovery. The bodies of two victims were found in the garage – a 60-year-old father and his 30-year-old son. The initial version of the cause of death suggested the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning, but the arrival of the investigative team changed the picture of what had happened.

The investigation revealed that an F-1 combat grenade had detonated in the building. Explosive experts working at the scene found fragments of the munition, which confirmed the preliminary hypothesis of an explosion. At the scene of the tragedy, investigators from the Sarny District Police Department opened a pre-trial investigation under Article 115(1)(2) and Article 263(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers premeditated murder and illegal handling of weapons and ammunition.

Investigators are currently establishing the origin of the munition and the circumstances under which the fatal explosion occurred. At the same time, law enforcement officers urge citizens not to keep explosive devices in their homes. Explosive devices, such as grenades, pose an extreme threat and can cause irreparable tragedies for any family.
