Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have identified the body of Rabbi Tzvi Kogan, who disappeared several days ago. Kogan was an envoy of the Chabad organisation in the region. According to official information, his death is being investigated as a possible terrorist act with an anti-Semitic motive. This was announced by the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday morning.
Investigation of the incident
The Mossad, together with local law enforcement agencies in the UAE, launched an investigation after receiving information indicating a possible terrorist connection to Kogan’s disappearance.
“The Israeli mission in Abu Dhabi has been in contact with the family of the deceased since the incident began and continues to support them in this difficult time,” the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office and the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Reaction of Israel and the Jewish community
Rabbi Kogan’s family in Israel was immediately informed of the results of the investigation. The Israeli Embassy in the UAE is working closely with local authorities to determine the circumstances of his death.
Rabbi Shvi Kogan was known for his work in developing Jewish life in the region, which expanded significantly after the normalisation of relations between Israel and the UAE as part of the Abrahamic Accords.
The tragedy has become a serious challenge to relations between the countries, which had previously demonstrated stable development. The anti-Semitic nature of the alleged terrorist attack drew condemnation from global Jewish organisations.
