Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 200 Ukrainian artists and 103 media representatives have been killed, Ukrainian Minister of Culture and Information Policy Rostyslav Karandeyev said during a public report in Kyiv.
“These figures are evidence that the war has affected every sphere of our society. We have lost talented artists, directors, actors, painters, journalists, cameramen – those who shaped Ukrainian culture, information space and national identity,” Karandeyev said.
According to the minister, the deceased artists not only created but also fought on the frontline, often as volunteers. He also added that dozens of Ukrainian media activists and journalists are working in the most dangerous parts of the frontline, recording the aggressor’s crimes.
As part of the government’s support, the Ministry of Culture is developing programmes to help the families of the victims and continues to support independent media and cultural projects operating in the war.
