A number of Ukrainian media outlets and government offices were targeted by anonymous bomb threats. During the incident, which affected Kyiv and Lviv, emails were received with information about the possible placement of explosive devices at several important facilities in these cities. The authors of the messages stated that they intended to carry out new explosions every 3-4 days, in particular in public places.
According to information published by Time Ukraine Israel, citing Internetua, explosives were allegedly planted at more than 20 sites, including schools, administrative offices, media outlets and important transport infrastructure.
Anonymous threats and their potential targets
Among the recipients of the threats were the editorial offices of such media outlets as Suspilne, Vilne Radio, Kharkiv-based Dumka and the Sila Pravdy Investigative Journalism Centre. Important state institutions were also mentioned in the messages.
Such incidents reflect the growing threat to the safety of journalists and public facilities in times of war, and highlight the complexity of combating information and psychological attacks by the enemy.
Law enforcement response: assessment of possible causes of threats
Yulia Girdvilis, a spokesperson for the National Police of Ukraine, said that law enforcement officers are investigating the possibility of Russian special services being involved in these threats. She noted that such methods could be part of information and psychological operations aimed at destabilising the situation in the country.
The police are currently checking all reports of bombs and taking the necessary security measures. Law enforcement officers also urge citizens not to panic and to be vigilant.
Context and previous cases
The tactic of mining public facilities is a well-known form of psychological pressure during the war. There have been numerous reports of bomb threats in Ukraine, most of which turn out to be fake. However, such incidents are no less dangerous, as they can cause panic and divert resources from real threats.
It is important to emphasise that such threats can be aimed not only at creating chaos, but also at putting pressure on the media and other institutions that are trying to cover the situation in the country objectively.
In the context of war, Ukraine faces new challenges not only at the frontline but also in the fight for information security. Bomb threats are part of Russia’s broader hybrid warfare strategy. The vigilance and determination of law enforcement, as well as the calmness of citizens, should be key factors in countering such attacks.
