7 April – Seoul – South Korean authorities are planning to hold early presidential elections on 3 June 2025. This was reported by Yonhap news agency, citing government sources. Final approval of the date is expected within the next week.

Elections after impeachment

The decision to vote early comes after the Constitutional Court on 4 April upheld the impeachment of President Yun Seok-yol, who, according to the court, exceeded his authority by attempting to impose martial law without parliamentary approval.

According to the South Korean constitution, the election of a new president must take place within 60 days after the official removal of the head of state from office.

Candidate registration has already begun

According to Yonhap, the National Election Commission has already started early registration of candidates. If the government approves the 3 June election date:

– Candidate registration will last until 11 May;

– The official election campaign will begin on 12 May.

Political tension in the country

The impeachment of Yun Seok-yol, who had previously been known for his tough security and North Korea policies, has caused a lot of political turbulence. His removal was a historic step that opened a new phase of the power struggle in Seoul.

Analysts believe that the election could reshape the political landscape in South Korea, where demand for stability and democratic governance is growing amid an unprecedented crisis.
