In the course of a carefully planned special operation, the National Police of Ukraine exposed the activities of an agent of the Russian Federation who, while in prison, organised arson attacks on law enforcement and military vehicles. The operation revealed how the offender could coordinate criminal activities with other members of the criminal group from prison.

According to the police, the prisoner was contacted by a person who introduced himself as a criminal authority of the Russian Federation. They offered him to “pull off” a crime in the form of setting fire to several cars. The prisoner, in turn, found a perpetrator, whom he instructed in detail about the choice of targets and the amount of remuneration for the “work”. A clear condition was to shoot a video of the arson for a report to the Russian client.

The police, having received operational information about the preparation of the crime, decided to act immediately. As part of the special operation, law enforcement officers simulated an arson attack to prevent real damage. This allowed them not only to prevent the crime, but also to establish the entire scheme of the criminals’ activities, from the moment they received the order to the planning of execution and future payment.

The incident once again confirms the high level of threat faced by Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and demonstrates the effectiveness of the National Police’s response to attempts to destabilise the country.
