On the evening of Thursday, 20 February, two buses parked in different car parks in Bat Yam exploded. According to the Vesty portal, the police are considering a version of a terrorist attack. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
Details of the incident
The first explosion occurred at around 20:30 at a bus stop near the Bat Yam stadium. A security guard on duty at the site heard a massive explosion and noticed the bus instantly catch fire. He immediately called the police and firefighters.
A second explosion occurred shortly afterwards in another car park nearby. Both buses caught fire, but firefighters were able to quickly contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading.
Suspicion of a terrorist attack
At present, police do not rule out the possibility of a terrorist attack. Bomb squads are checking other buses in the Gush Dan area for explosive devices. They are also checking CCTV cameras and collecting eyewitness accounts.
Government response
The police urge citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious items.
At the same time, the authorities emphasise that the situation is under control and urge Bat Yam residents to remain calm.
