The Jewish people should focus not only on combating anti-Semitism but also on strengthening their own identity, education, and unity. This was stated by Jewish educator and influencer Jamie Geller during a Knesset hearing on online hate, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Identity is more important than reaction
Geller stressed that Jews need to know what they are fighting for, not just what they are fighting against. Countering anti-Semitism alone does not guarantee the future of the Jewish people.
Three basic principles of Jewish heritage
Jewish identity is based on responsibility, wisdom and love.
- The responsibility is to support unity, education, Israel and Jewish institutions.
- Wisdom is a deep understanding of Jewish texts and traditions, not just cultural heritage.
- Love – for your people and faith, which should be expressed not only in times of crisis.
Education and unity as the key to the future
Communities need to invest in education, create meaningful Jewish initiatives, and maintain ties between the diasporas. This is the only way to guarantee the prosperity of the Jewish people in the future.
