This morning, the Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, held an official farewell ceremony for the current IDF Spokesperson, Admiral Daniel Hagari. During the event, Zamir praised Hagari’s work during an extremely busy and challenging period when public relations came to the fore.

“Hagar was the voice of the army. Night after night, he delivered both difficult and encouraging news to the public with courage, sensitivity and composure,” the Chief of the General Staff said. He thanked the Admiral for his significant contribution to the military service and wished him further success in his career.

Lieutenant General Effie Defrin has been appointed as the new IDF spokesperson. Zamir stressed that he faces an extremely important mission – effective communication in the context of the ongoing war and public tension – and expressed confidence in his professionalism and ability to continue the work of his predecessor.

The change of spokesperson comes amid the ongoing conflict and growing public attention to the IDF’s information policy.
