The body of Thomas B., a German intelligence officer who had spent many years working in crisis regions, was found in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. The news of his death caused a wide response, and the circumstances of the tragedy raised many questions.
According to the German newspaper BILD, Thomas, 54, did not show up for work for two days and did not respond to calls, prompting his colleagues to conduct a search. His body was found in a rented apartment in the city’s diplomatic district, which is usually subject to strict security controls.
Thomas sent his last message on WhatsApp on the evening of 11 January, and shortly afterwards he stopped contacting. According to the Pakistani police, Thomas had heart problems and was undergoing medical treatment, which may be related to his death. However, the images that appeared on social media show blood on the deceased’s face, although law enforcement officials claim that the bleeding began after his death.
The German Foreign Ministry expressed deep condolences for the loss of a colleague and noted that the thoughts of all employees are with Thomas’ family. At the same time, the Federal Intelligence Service refused to comment on the incident.
The situation in Pakistan is considered quite tense, and the region periodically becomes an arena for armed conflicts with Islamist groups, especially on the border with Afghanistan. The German Foreign Office considers this area to be one of the most dangerous for foreign diplomats and intelligence officers.
This mysterious death leaves many unresolved details and raises the question of possible external factors that could have influenced the events that led to the tragedy.
