Israel’s National Security Council announced the creation of a special commission to review the country’s defense budget. The initiator of the creation of the commission was Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrych, who emphasized the need to reassess current costs and the structure of the defense forces.
As Time Ukraine Israel reports, referring to Israel’s Channel 7, the commission will be headed by Brigadier General and Professor Yaakov Nagel, and will include representatives from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Defense and the IDF. The commission’s main task is to assess the current force composition and defense budget to ensure their suitability for the modern threats and challenges facing Israel.
Minister Smotrych expressed support for the initiative, noting: “The convening of this commission is an important step in the right direction. Her work will be of key importance for improving the economic management of the country’s security. The events that occurred during the Simhat Torah holiday underscored the need to review existing structures and the allocation of defense resources. I am confident that the commission, in cooperation with all parties, will make a significant contribution to strengthening our security system.”
This initiative is aimed at strengthening Israel’s defense potential and adapting to the new challenges facing the country. Decisions made by the commission can lead to significant changes in strategic planning and resource allocation in the defense sector.
