In Ukraine, all citizens, including women, must be ready for military service. This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Pavlo Palisa, in an interview with Bihus.Info published on 12 April.

Palisa stressed that the threat from Russia could persist for decades – from 10 to 30 years – and therefore the issue of mobilisation and military training needs to be rethought on a large scale.

“We will have to live with this – with the understanding that it could happen again if we are not strong enough. This requires everyone to serve,” Palisa said.

He suggested studying the experience of Israel, where military service is compulsory for both men and women. According to him, citizens who want to receive positions, education or any payments from the state budget must serve in the army.

Palisa also suggested introducing annual service contracts, during which citizens would receive basic military training, become familiar with the army system and form a reserve.

Separately, the deputy head of the OP proposed to make military service mandatory for those Ukrainians who plan to become MPs or hold public office.

“Men and women in the modern army can perform various important tasks. And this should become the norm for our country,” Palisa concluded.
