The United States has refused to support the UN General Assembly resolution condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. This was stated in an official statement by the acting US representative to the UN, Jonathan Schreyer, published on 16 April on the website of the US mission.

In a statement, Schrayer noted that the current resolution “repeats statements about the Russia-Ukraine war that the United States believes are unhelpful in advancing the cause of peace”. At the same time, the United States stressed that a lasting resolution to the conflict is “of the utmost importance” to both Council of Europe members and the United States itself.

The US position has sparked debate among the international community, as the country has repeatedly expressed support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression. The refusal to support the resolution may indicate a change in Washington’s approach to diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

Experts note that this decision may affect the further dynamics of the negotiations and international pressure on Russia. There are currently no official comments from other UN member states on the US position.
