On 8 April 2025, the US Army Europe and Africa Command (USAREUR-AF) announced the relocation of US military equipment and personnel from the Jasionka logistics hub, located near Rzeszow Airport in Poland, to other facilities within the country. This was stated in an official statement by the command.

According to USAREUR-AF representatives, the redeployment was planned in advance and is part of a strategy to optimise US military operations. It is aimed at increasing efficiency, strengthening support for allies and partners, and ensuring stability in the region. The statement emphasised that assistance to Ukraine will continue to flow through Yasenka, but will now be coordinated by Poland and NATO, supported by a reduced but optimised presence of US troops. The security of the facility will be ensured by Poland together with other allies.

“Poland has become a great host for our forces. In recent years, we have moved operations to more stable facilities in the country. After three years in Jasionka, we have a chance to properly adjust our presence and save the American taxpayer tens of millions of dollars every year,” said General Christopher Donaghy, the U.S. Army Commander for Europe and Africa.

Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on social media platform X that the tasks previously performed by the US military in Yasienka are now distributed among allies, including Norway, Germany, the UK and Poland. The Yasenka logistics hub was established in 2022 after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It has become a key point for the delivery of military and humanitarian aid.

Earlier, To Rzeszow reported, citing Kosiniak-Kamysh, that 45 countries had sent support to Ukraine through Yasenka. The redeployment of US forces, according to the Polish minister, will not affect the stability of this process, as the allies are ready to take on additional responsibility.

This step demonstrates the US desire to adapt its presence in Europe to new realities, while maintaining support for Ukraine and cooperation with NATO. At the same time, Poland confirms its key role as a regional leader in logistics support and defence cooperation.
