The administration of US President Donald Trump is developing a large-scale plan to forcibly deport illegal migrants from the country. According to The Washington Post, an ambitious figure of 1 million deportees per year is already being discussed within Trump’s team.

According to the newspaper, citing its sources, such a deportation rate would be unprecedented in US history. For comparison, the highest recorded level of deportations occurred during the presidency of Barack Obama – more than 400,000 people a year.

It is noted that Trump’s new immigration strategy is not only about intensifying border control, but also about creating new mechanisms to speed up deportation processes.

Earlier, Trump had repeatedly criticised the current migrant policy and stated his intention to strengthen security measures on the border with Mexico. Deportation and immigration are expected to be key issues in his election campaign.
