US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, 11 May, that he was “beginning to doubt” that Ukraine would be able to reach a ceasefire agreement with Russia. In his post on Truth Social, Trump called on Ukraine to hold talks with Russian officials in Turkey on Thursday to discuss a possible end to the conflict.

“I am beginning to doubt that Ukraine will make a deal with Putin,” Trump wrote. “Russian President Putin does not want a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine, but wants to meet in Turkey on Thursday to discuss a possible end to this BLOODY BATTLE.”

According to Truth, a meeting with representatives of Ukraine, Russia, European leaders and the United States will “determine whether a deal is possible”.

These statements were made after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Donald Trump in the Vatican on 26 April 2025 during the funeral of Pope Francis. Currently, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia remains one of the most pressing issues in international politics, and any negotiations could have a significant impact on further developments.
