US President Donald Trump is “seriously considering” the possibility of lifting all restrictions imposed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, on Ukraine’s military operations. This was reported by the Kyiv Post, citing Western officials, Yevropeiska Pravda reports .

One of the interlocutors noted that all previously imposed restrictions, regardless of whether they had already been eased, are currently being reviewed. “The president (Trump) believes that the current status quo is not in our mutual interest to bring Russia to the negotiating table,” the unnamed official said, without providing details.

In addition, on Monday evening, a Western official told the Kyiv Post that Trump’s final decision on sanctions against Russia and the next phase of support for Ukraine will be discussed this week in Washington during meetings with German representatives. In particular, German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadefuhl is expected to visit the US capital in the coming days.

On Monday, Vadeful said in an interview with the German news programme Tagesschau that Russian President Vladimir Putin “does not want peace, he wants to continue the war, and we cannot let him.” He also added that European partners are already preparing another package of sanctions against Russia.

Prerequisites:

  • On Monday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine by Western allies were no longer in effect. On Tuesday, however, he clarified that his statement referred to decisions made several months ago, not to new changes.
  • It is not yet clear whether Vadefoul intends to develop the topic raised by Merz during his meetings with representatives of the Trump administration this week.
  • On 25 May, Donald Trump, commenting on the latest Russian shelling of Ukraine, said he was considering additional sanctions against Russia.
  • According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump may decide on new sanctions against Russia this week, but it is not final.
