Tusk: Europe must guarantee peace by force, and Poland will stand by Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that Europe must finally believe in its own strength and take responsibility for the continent’s security, rather than relying solely on US assistance. He said this before leaving for the summit in London, Ukrinform reports.

Tusk stressed that Poland would continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and would simultaneously deepen strategic relations with the United States.

“This is a paradox: 500 million Europeans are asking 300 million Americans to protect them from 140 million Russians. If you can do the maths, count on yourself,” the Polish Prime Minister said.

Europe has the potential to win

The Prime Minister of Poland reminded that the total army of European countries, including Ukraine, has 2.6 million troops, which is more than the United States, China or Russia. According to him, Europe also has an advantage in aviation and artillery, but lacks determination.

“Peace is possible only through strength. A strong, well-armed Europe is able to guarantee peace, not through Ukraine’s surrender, but through its own power,” Tusk said.

Proposals for the summit

In London, Tusk plans to support Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s initiative to convene a joint EU-US summit and call on his partners to strengthen the defence of Europe’s eastern flank, from Finland to the Baltic States and Poland.

Poland is a leader in defence and support of Ukraine

Donald Tusk stressed that Poland, which already spends the most money on defence among EU countries, has a unique status in the community of allies and its voice will be heard.

“Poland stands by Ukraine without any “buts”. We remain a reliable partner of Europe and the United States and will act despite any difficult circumstances,” Tusk concluded.
