Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service has announced its active participation in government efforts to free Ukrainian military and civilians held in Russian captivity.
According to the press service of the FIS of Ukraine, on Tuesday, 15 April, the Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine Oleh Ivashchenko took part in a meeting of the Council of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. The meeting discussed the priorities of exchanges, mechanisms for intensifying negotiations and further steps to coordinate efforts.
The Council members adopted a number of organisational decisions, including the launch of new regional groups in May, including a representative office for the temporarily occupied Crimea. The issue of public involvement in the work of the Coordination Centre was also raised, in particular through the creation of a public council.
It was also noted that special support centres for relatives of prisoners of war already operate in Lviv, Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv, providing assistance, counselling and support.
The FISU emphasises that during the full-scale war, Ukraine managed to return 4,306 citizens from Russian captivity. This work continues every day – the state will not leave any of its defenders unattended.
