Ukraine will be covered by frost: storm warnings have been issued, transport and utilities may be disrupted

6 April – KyivFrost, snowfall and ice are expected to hit most of Ukraine on 7-8 April, which could disrupt the operations of energy, construction and utility companies and hamper traffic. This is the warning of the Ukrainian Weather Service, which has issued storm warnings of the first and second hazard levels.

What forecasters predict:

– On 7 April, air frosts of 0…-5°C are expected in the western, northern, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.

– On the night of 7 April, there will be frost on the soil surface in Kharkiv and Dnipro regions,

On 8 April – in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

An orange alert has been issued in these regions due to the threat of damage to crops, especially early flowering fruit trees.

Precipitation and ice:

– There is ice and sleet in the west, north and centre.

Intense snow in the Carpathians, down to -9°C at night.

– In the eastern and southeastern regions, there will be rains, with sleet in some places.

– In Kyiv: light snow and ice, -2°C at night, up to +3°C during the day.

Wind:

Mostly north-westerly, with gusts of 15-20 m/s, which can increase the feeling of cold and create problems on the roads and with power supply.

“Weather conditions can complicate the work of energy, construction and utility services, as well as disrupt traffic. Frosts are a threat to gardening,” the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre said in a statement.

Ukrainians are urged to plan their trips with caution, check the insulation of their homes and secure their gardens.
