The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has summoned Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga to report on the results of the negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine and the United States that took place on 11 March in Saudi Arabia. This was reported by MPs Yaroslav Zheleznyak (Voice) and Oleksiy Honcharenko (European Solidarity).

The decision to summon the minister was supported by 152 MPs, which is two votes more than the required minimum. According to Honcharenko, the MPs demand detailed information on the progress of the negotiations and the agreements reached.

What happened at the talks in Saudi Arabia?

On 1 March, representatives of Ukraine and the United States met in Jeddah to discuss the peaceful settlement of the war.

The Ukrainian side took part in the negotiations:

– Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiga,

– Defence Minister Rustem Umerov,

– Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak,

– his deputy Pavel Palisa.

The United States was represented:

– Secretary of State Marco Rubio,

– Mike Volz, National Security Advisor to the President of the United States.

As a result of the meeting, Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire, which could begin immediately if Russia agrees. According to Secretary Rubio, the parties also discussed the issue of territorial concessions.

Why was there a resonance in the parliament?

The ceasefire and possible concessions in the war have raised questions among MPs. In particular, the MPs want to hear the official position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on what compromises Ukraine is ready to make and whether there are clear guarantees from the United States.

The situation gained additional attention after the US resumed military aid to Ukraine, which was temporarily frozen on 3 March, following negotiations. This was stated by Pavlo Palisa, who confirmed that the supply of weapons would continue.

Andriy Sybiga is expected to deliver an official report to the Verkhovna Rada in the near future, which may shed light on the terms of the negotiations and the position of the Ukrainian leadership.
