Kyiv, 21 March 2025 – As of 20 March, farmers in 19 regions of Ukraine sowed 250.4 thousand hectares of spring grains and legumes. This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to the agency, barley accounts for the largest area under crops – 133.5 thousand hectares. Spring wheat was sown on 36.7 thousand hectares, peas on 57 thousand hectares, and oats on 16.9 thousand hectares. The sowing campaign is actively underway despite the difficult weather conditions and martial law in the country.
The following regions were the leaders in terms of sowing rates:
• Миколаївська область — 43 тисячі гектарів (пшениця — 1,5 тис. га, ячмінь — 22,5 тис. га, горох — 18,7 тис. га, овес — 0,3 тис. га);
• Тернопільська область — 31,3 тисячі гектарів (пшениця — 6,4 тис. га, ячмінь — 21,3 тис. га, горох — 2,1 тис. га, овес — 1,5 тис. га);
• Кіровоградська область — 25,9 тисячі гектарів (пшениця — 0,9 тис. га, ячмінь — 14,5 тис. га, горох — 10,5 тис. га);
• Вінницька область — 24,1 тисячі гектарів (пшениця — 5,6 тис. га, ячмінь — 12,3 тис. га, горох — 5,3 тис. га, овес — 0,9 тис. га);
• Рівненська область — 15,2 тисячі гектарів (пшениця — 0,5 тис. га, ячмінь — 10,7 тис. га, горох — 0,7 тис. га, овес — 3,3 тис. га).The ministry noted that farmers continue to work with limited resources caused by the war, in particular due to a shortage of fuel, fertilisers and machinery. However, thanks to the support of the government and international partners, the sowing campaign is gaining momentum.
This year’s figures are an important signal for the food security of Ukraine and the world, as the country remains one of the key grain exporters despite Russia’s ongoing aggression. The agency hopes that favourable weather conditions will allow the sowing to be completed in the best possible time.
