On Saturday, 22 March 2025, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior said that the United States had cancelled a $10 million reward offer for information that could lead to the arrest of Sirajuddin Haqqani, a key Taliban leader. This was reported by Reuters.

The US State Department has not yet responded to a request for comment on this matter. However, the reward is still listed on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) website. The FBI report states that Haqqani “allegedly coordinated and participated in cross-border attacks against US and coalition forces in Afghanistan”.

Sirajuddin Haqqani, known as one of the most influential Taliban leaders, has long been wanted for his role in fighting against US and allied forces. The cancellation of the bounty may indicate a change in the US approach to engaging with the Taliban, although no official explanation has been provided.

The news caused a wide response, as Haqqani remains a key figure in Afghan politics and security. Further comments from the US side may shed light on the reasons for this decision.
