Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that there are no signs that the United States intends to reduce or withdraw its troops from Europe. He made this statement after talks in Warsaw with Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, on Tuesday, 18 February.

According to Duda, Washington is not going to scale back its security activities in the region or reduce the number of US troops in Europe.

“There is nothing to indicate that the US will leave Europe,” the Polish president was quoted as saying by dpa.

Last week, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that the United States, on the contrary, might increase its military contingent in Poland due to the unstable situation on Ukraine’s borders.

At a joint press conference with Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, he stressed that this was his personal position, but that Washington was considering options to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank.

Currently, there are more than 10,000 US troops in Poland, as well as a significant amount of US military equipment. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, US forces have significantly increased their presence in Eastern Europe.

It is expected that the issue of further expansion of the US military presence in the region will be discussed at the NATO summit in 2025.
