Washington, USA – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has commented on US President Donald Trump’s recent criticism of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying that the US leader’s negative attitude is “fair”. Rubio said this in an interview with journalist Catherine Herridge published on X (Twitter).
“Trump is very upset with President Zelenskyy, and rightfully so,” Rubio said.
American support with conditions
Despite the criticism, the Secretary of State stressed that the United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine, but expects reciprocal gratitude and cooperation.
“We care about Ukraine because it has implications for our allies and ultimately for the world. There has to be some level of gratitude here,” Rubio stressed.
Reasons for dissatisfaction
One of the key reasons for the tensions was President Zelensky’s decision to reject a deal with the US on the supply of precious metals. According to Rubio, this caused disappointment for both him and Trump.
“I was upset when Zelenskyy said he rejected the US deal on precious metals because ‘it was all wrong’,” the secretary of state added.
What does this mean for future relationships?
Rubio’s remarks may indicate a new wave of diplomatic tension between Washington and Kyiv. Although the US continues to support Ukraine militarily and financially, more and more US politicians are demanding clearer actions from the Ukrainian leadership.
