President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will join the leaders of the European Union at an extraordinary summit of the European Council on 6 March in Brussels. According to Yevropeiska Pravda, citing sources among senior EU officials, the Ukrainian president accepted the invitation of European Council President Antonio Costa and will personally attend the meeting.
The summit will focus on further support for Ukraine and strengthening the EU’s defence capabilities against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression.
According to the European Union, Zelenskyy will join a working lunch with EU leaders to discuss Ukraine’s urgent needs and emphasise the importance of European unity in confronting the Kremlin.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine and Europe should be at the negotiating table together to end the war with Russia. According to him, Europe remains one of the main strategic goals for the aggressor, and therefore common security depends on the determination and solidarity of partners.
The summit is also expected to discuss the prospects of increasing military assistance to Ukraine, creating new financial instruments to support it, and sanctions against Russia.
The meeting in Brussels could become a landmark for finding solutions that will define the European strategy on the war in Ukraine in the coming months.
