A record-breaking attack by the Russian Federation: Ukrainian defence forces neutralise 406 of 452 air targets

On the night of 6 June, Russia conducted its largest air attack on Ukraine, launching 452 aircraft. According to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, air defence forces managed to destroy 406 enemy targets.

The Russian invaders attacked with the use of:

  • 407 Shahed-typeattack UAVs and various types of imitation drones launched from the territory of the Russian Federation (Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk) and the temporarily occupied Crimea (Hvardiyske);
  • 6 Iskander-M/KN-23ballistic missiles from Kursk and Voronezh regions of the Russian Federation;
  • 36 X-101 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS/Tu-160MS strategic aircraft operating from the airspace of Saratov region and the Caspian Sea;
  • 2 Iskander-K cruise missiles from the Dzhankoy area in Crimea;
  • 1 X-31P (anti-radar)missile from tactical aircraft over the Black Sea.

The attacks were repelled by aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare, mobile fire groups and unmanned aerial systems of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

As of 10:00 a.m., it was neutralised:

  • 199 attack UAVs were destroyed by fire,
  • 169 UAVs – suppressed by electronic warfare,
  • 4 ballistic missiles were shot down, 2 more did not reach their targets,
  • 30 X-101 cruise missiles were destroyed,
  • 2 Iskander-K cruise missiles were destroyed.

Despite the extremely high effectiveness of air defence, hits were recorded in 13 settlements, and the wreckage of downed targets fell in 19 locations across the country.
