German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany has taken over the financing of a significant part of Starlink’s satellite coverage in Ukraine.
“As part of our extended military assistance, we are financing a significant part of the coverage of the Starlink system in Ukraine,” Merz said at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Berlin.
This step is part of the comprehensive support for Ukraine’s defence capabilities, along with the decision to co-finance the production of long-range weapons. Starlink provides critical communications infrastructure for the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the frontline.
Germany continues to be one of Ukraine’s key partners in the European security space.
