Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday called on country officials to consider possible ways to demonstrate Tehran’s strength in response to Israel’s recent air strikes on Iranian military targets. This was reported by the state news agency IRNA, Sky News reports.
“The evil committed by the Zionist regime (Israel) two nights ago should be neither understated nor exaggerated,” Khamenei said, stressing the need for a cautious but decisive approach in responding to the aggression.
Iranian officials said that Israeli air strikes caused minimal damage, even though dozens of Israeli aircraft carried out three waves of bombing raids on Saturday, targeting missile factories and other strategic sites near Tehran and in the west of the country. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden called for de-escalation as the incident heightened fears of a possible full-scale war in the Middle East.
Khamenei stressed that the demonstration of Iran’s strength should be in accordance with the interests of the people and the country, and the way to achieve this should be determined by officials.
