Since Saturday evening, the armed confrontation between Israel and Iran has escalated: both countries have launched powerful air strikes on each other’s territory. This was reported by Fox News.

According to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), the country has already suffered the fifth consecutive missile attack from Iran. In response, the Israeli Air Force is conducting air strikes on targets in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Israel’s missile defence systems – Iron Dome, Patriot and THAAD – intercepted a significant number of Iranian missiles over the north of the country, but some of them still reached their targets. In particular, more than 15 ballistic missiles were fired at Haifa, one of which caused a fire in the city’s suburbs.

In response, according to international media reports, the Israeli military attacked Iran’s oil refining and energy infrastructure.

Israeli Defence Minister Yisrael Katz issued a warning to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei: “If the shelling continues, Tehran will burn.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for his part, declared his readiness for more radical action.
“We have paved the way to Tehran. Our pilots will strike the ayatollahs’ regime over the skies of the Iranian capital in ways they cannot even imagine,” he stressed.

This is another escalation of the armed conflict between the countries, which carries the risk of a large-scale war in the Middle East with unpredictable consequences for the entire region and global security.
