On Sunday morning, the Israeli army announced the successful interception of a rocket launched from Yemen. The strike was aimed at northern Israel, where air raid sirens were set off in the Talmei Elazar area, Time of Israel reports.
“Following the sounding of sirens in Talmei Elazar, a missile launched from Yemen was successfully intercepted before entering Israeli airspace,” the Israeli army said in a statement posted on Telegram.
This is not the first such incident. On Friday, the Israeli army announced that it had intercepted a missile and a drone that were also launched from Yemen. These attacks were claimed by the Houthis, the Iranian-backed rebels.
The Houthis have stepped up attacks against Israel, justifying their actions in solidarity with the Palestinians, since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023. Last week, they claimed to have launched two rockets in the direction of Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv and a power plant south of Jerusalem.
In response to these attacks, Israel launched a series of air strikes on targets in Yemen, targeting Houthi infrastructure.
In addition, the Houthis continue to attack ships associated with Israel, the United States and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, threatening international navigation.
