The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) has announced the dismissal of the new Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Ali Shadmani, who was appointed to the post only a few days ago after the death of his predecessor.

This was reported by the IDF press service on Tuesday, 17 June.

“As a result of accurate data obtained by the IDF Intelligence Directorate, the Israeli Air Force struck a command centre in the heart of Tehran on Tuesday night and killed Ali Shadmani,” the statement said.

Shadmani was one of the closest associates of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Until recently, he was the head of the emergency command of the Iranian Armed Forces – the Khatam al-Anbia Centre, which led combat operations and controlled both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the country’s regular army.

According to the IDF, Shadmani personally influenced Tehran’s operational plans against Israel.

The Israeli army’s press service stressed that Shadmani’s elimination is part of a series of operations to destroy Iran’s top military leadership, which aims to weaken the command structure of the Iranian Armed Forces.
