On Friday evening, the Israeli military cabinet decided to expand operations in the Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported. In particular, several reserve brigades will be mobilised, and the 8th Infantry Division will move to the front line.
Despite the intensification of hostilities, Israel is not planning a full-scale invasion, relying on the possibility of a new deal to release the hostages. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it is currently believed that less than half of the 59 hostages are likely to be alive.
Sources from N12 TV channel said that the war could last until at least 2025, and that the army lacks about 10,000 soldiers.
The Security Cabinet’s decision came after the Prime Minister’s Office denied Arab media reports that Israel had allegedly reneged on the terms of the agreement, which included a one-year IDF presence in Gaza. Israel accuses Hamas of blocking the agreement.
