On the evening of 5 May, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed a series of strikes on the Hezbollah group’s infrastructure in Lebanon, including a strategic weapons production and storage facility in the Bekaa Valley. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.

According to the Israeli military, the facilities were hit after Hezbollah attempted to resume its presence and activities in the warehouse. In addition, the militants’ facilities in the Srifa area were hit, which, according to the IDF, is a “blatant violation of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon”.

The village of Aytaroun in southeastern Lebanon was struck by a drone, Lebanon’s state news agency reported. According to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Akhbar newspaper, Israeli drones also attacked the outskirts of the Hallet al-Maghaffer district. Another air strike was recorded near the village of Janta in the Baqaa province, near the border with Syria.

At the same time, there were reports of attacks in Syria. In particular, last week, a strike on a pickup truck between the villages of Mis al-Jabal and Layda killed three men – two Syrians and one Lebanese citizen. The Israeli army said that two of them were members of Hezbollah’s radical wing, the Radwan militant group.

Strikes on military targets near Hama in western Syria were also confirmed. Responsibility for the attacks has not yet been officially claimed, but the Lebanese TV channel Al-Manar, affiliated with Hezbollah, blamed Israel.

Against the backdrop of the escalating situation, the Lebanese army has strengthened its control over the southern regions of the country. According to AFP, more than 90% of Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the region has been dismantled since the ceasefire in November.
