Israeli army kills terrorist involved in hostage-taking in Gaza Strip

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) killed a terrorist who ordered the killing of Israeli hostages in the Re’im bomb shelter in the Gaza Strip in September. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) made the announcement on Telegram.

IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari confirmed that the killed terrorist belonged to the elite Nuhba unit of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, and also worked for UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. “We will continue to search for all those involved in the brutal massacre and will not stop until we bring home all the hostages,” added Hagari, noting that Hamas terrorists are currently holding 101 hostages in the Gaza Strip.

UN response

In response to the elimination of the terrorist, UNRWA confirmed that his name was Mohammed Abu Attawi and that he was indeed their employee. The UN noted that back in July, it received a list of 100 employees suspected of belonging to armed groups, including Hamas, from the Israeli side. The UNRWA Commissioner-General called on Israel to provide additional evidence, but no response has been received.

The October Hamas attack

As a reminder, on 7 October 2023, Hamas militants invaded Israel, killing more than 1,200 people, including foreign nationals. In addition, about 250 people were taken hostage and taken to the Gaza Strip, where they are still being held.

The IDF continues to conduct operations to eliminate the terrorists involved in this attack and to bring all hostages home.
