Israeli Air Force fighters carried out a series of airstrikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in the southern suburbs of Beirut and southern Lebanon. According to the Israeli army, one of the strikes killed Hezbollah commander Ahmad Sabih Hazimah, the Jerusalem Post reports.
According to the military, the strikes were based on accurate intelligence. A total of six targets of the terrorist group in Dahiyeh were destroyed, including Hezbollah coastal missiles and command posts. The military noted that Hezbollah deliberately located its command centres in residential areas, using civilians as human shields.
“We have taken all necessary measures to minimise damage to civilians, including aerial reconnaissance and evacuation warnings,” the army said in an official statement. Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli army’s Arab spokesman, Colonel Avihai Adrai, said that evacuation warnings had been issued for a number of buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
“You are in the vicinity of Hezbollah facilities and targets against which the Israeli army will conduct operations in the near future,” the warning reads. “For your safety and the safety of your families, you must evacuate these buildings and neighbouring buildings immediately.”
The airstrike on Dahiyeh was part of a broader attack in which the Israeli army destroyed about 30 Hezbollah targets this week. In particular, in Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, weapons depots and arsenals of anti-tank missiles, as well as the Nasser unit’s warehouses, were destroyed.
At the same time, Hezbollah commander Ahmad Sabih Hazimah was killed in Tyre in southern Lebanon. According to the army, Hazimah was the head of an operational unit in the coastal sector of Hezbollah and was responsible for numerous terrorist attacks in northern Israel.
Before taking over the operations unit, Hazimah was the deputy of the previous commander, who was eliminated earlier this month. According to the Israeli military, the elimination of Hazimah will significantly weaken Hezbollah’s ability to carry out terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens on the northern border.
