ISW names main problem of DPRK troops in Kursk region: language barrier and losses

The North Korean troops operating in the Kursk region in support of the Russian occupation forces are facing serious difficulties that significantly hamper their effectiveness. According to a report by the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the main problems are heavy losses of personnel and poor coordination due to the language barrier.

“Poor communication between North Korean and Russian military personnel disrupts the coordination of joint operations and undermines the overall effectiveness of Russian military operations in the region,” ISW analysts say.

In addition, reports from Ukraine’s intelligence service confirm the seriousness of the problem. According to them, the North Korean military mistakenly fired at vehicles of the Chechen Akhmat battalion, killing eight soldiers. The incident was allegedly caused by a lack of understanding between North Korean and Russian forces.

Experts believe that these problems are unlikely to be resolved in the near future, which will continue to weaken the capabilities of the Russian military in the Kursk region. The language barrier and the lack of proper integration between units only deepen the chaos in the actions of Russia’s allies.

This situation demonstrates that the involvement of foreign forces, in particular the DPRK’s troops, can create more problems than benefits for Russia in its war against Ukraine.
