On the night of 5 October, the sky over Syria was again split by explosions: Israel carried out powerful air strikes, destroying strategic Hezbollah facilities in Palmyra. IDF spokesman Avichai Adrae confirmed that the Israeli military had struck arms depots, which he said posed a threat to the security of the state.

But that’s not all: at the same time, the Israeli Air Force attacked a Hamas facility in the Gaza Strip, where the militants had set up a control centre in an educational institution. Adrae assured that the IDF used precision-guided munitions to avoid civilian casualties. However, the propaganda channel Al Jazeera reported at least eight deaths in Gaza, which is a matter of serious concern to the international community.

The situation is also getting worse in Lebanon. According to Reuters, the attacks in the north of the country killed Sayyid Atallah Ali, the leader of Hamas’ armed wing, along with his family. This is the second strike on Lebanese targets in as many days; earlier, on 4 October, Israeli forces destroyed a tunnel in Beirut.

Meanwhile, according to the New York Times, Iran is actively preparing for new attacks on Israel and is seeking support from Russia, which underscores the growing tensions in the region. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has said that the country and its allies will not retreat after the latest attacks.

The situation in the region remains extremely tense. The unfolding events could have serious consequences not only for the conflicting parties, but also for the entire international community watching this crisis.
