The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, will appeal to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross to report the shooting of five Ukrainian captured defenders by the Russian military. Lubinets made the announcement on his Telegram channel.

Another crime of the Russian military

Dmytro Lubinets noted that the fact of the crime was confirmed by a video released by the 110th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after Major General Marko Bezruchko.

“The video shows Russian soldiers shooting five Ukrainian prisoners who surrendered. This is another proof of the war crimes of the occupiers,” the ombudsman wrote.

Call for an international tribunal

Lubinets stressed that the perpetrators of these crimes should be punished with the most severe penalties under international law.

“Russian war criminals who cynically shoot prisoners of war must be brought before an international tribunal,” the Ombudsman stressed.

He added that Ukraine will continue to record all such crimes to submit evidence to international judicial bodies.

This incident is yet another reminder of the importance of the international community’s immediate response to violations of humanitarian law in times of war.
