Operation in Jenin: “Terrorism cannot be defeated by defence alone”

The head of the Israeli security service Shabak, Ronen Bar, during an assessment of the situation in the West Bank city of Jenin, said that Israel is in a multi-front struggle, and Samaria is now at stake, The Jerusalem Post reports .

“Terrorism cannot be defeated by defensive actions alone. Completing this mission is essential,” Bar said.

The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Herzi Galevi, added that a number of military operations must be carried out in the Jenin refugee camp to deprive the enemy of the ability to harm Israeli forces.

“We have to be ready to take further action in Jenin camp to change the situation in our favour,” said Ghalevi.

Elimination of terrorists: 13 targets neutralised

According to the Israeli military, 13 terrorists were eliminated in Jenin in parallel with the assessment of the situation. Two of them were involved in a terrorist attack near the Palestinian town of Al-Fundouk in early January.

In this attack, 73-year-old Rachel Cohen, 70-year-old Aliza Reis, and Israeli police officer Eldad Yaakov Winkelstein were killed.

Operation Iron Wall against terrorism

Earlier this week, the Israeli military announced the launch of Operation Iron Wall, aimed at combating Palestinian terrorism in Jenin. The Commander of the Central Command, Major General Avi Blut, and the Commander of the Judea and Samaria Division, Brigadier General Yaki Dolph, also took part in the strategic assessment of the situation.

Israel continues to take active measures to ensure the security of its citizens and strengthen control in the region.
