On the night of 6 June, Russia carried out the most massive air attack on Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war, using more than 400 attack drones and over 40 missiles, including ballistic missiles. The attack covered almost all regions of the country, from the east to the Lviv region, and resulted in casualties.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Facebook, noting that at least three people were killed – all employees of the State Emergency Service – and 49 injured. “Unfortunately, the number may increase: people are asking for help,” the head of state warned.

According to Zelenskyy, Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Kyiv, Sumy, Poltava, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions were hit. The air defence forces managed to destroy some of the drones and missiles, but due to the scale of the attack and its multi-vector nature, the air defence system was unable to intercept all targets.

Earlier, Yuriy Ihnat, head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said that during the night attack, the enemy used 407 attack UAVs, 6 ballistic and 38 cruise missiles. About 30 cruise missiles and up to 200 drones were shot down. “The enemy is overloading the air defence system and using imitation drones to complicate the situation. But we have a high rate of losses. Most regions of the country are under attack,” Ihnat said.

President Zelenskyy stressed that Russia must be held accountable for its attacks on civilians: “We have done a lot together with the world to be able to defend ourselves. But now is the moment when America, Europe and everyone in the world must act decisively. If someone does not put pressure on Russia, they are complicit.”
