On the morning of 25 December, Russian troops launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine’s energy facilities. As a result, power cuts were introduced to stabilise the energy system.

What we know

Ukrenergo announces the introduction of measures to limit electricity consumption across the country to maintain the stability of the power system.

Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said in his post:

  • Russia is again targeting energy infrastructure.
  • The transmission system operator takes measures to minimise the consequences of attacks.

Actions of power engineers

The minister stressed that experts will start assessing the damage as soon as the security situation allows. Despite the attacks, power engineers are ready to quickly restore electricity supply in the affected regions.

Implications for the population

  • Temporary power outages are possible in various regions of Ukraine.
  • Citizens are asked to use electricity rationally and follow the recommendations of operators.

Ukraine continues to face targeted attacks on critical infrastructure, but the power system remains resilient thanks to the work of experts and the support of international partners.
